Cabrera Thanksgiving
Okay here is the scoop:
It looks like we will have 32 for dinner with 7 "extras" stopping in for a visit, but not for eating. How fun! Jessica, John and Baby Isabella will be making an appearance at 1pm, and can only stay for an hour or so...if you want to see the new baby, make sure you come early!
Please make sure when you are bring side dishes, that you consider the large number of "eaters", and bring lots. It's always a bummer to be the one at the end of the line, and the dish you wanted is all gone.
Here is our food list:
Jim and Kate (5 total): Turkey (actually turkeys), Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing, Gravy, Corn pudding, 2 pumpkin rolls, Beer, Wine, Pop, and Milk.
Mary and Rich (2 total): Sweet potato casserole, corn bread, cranberry relish
Liti and Bob (2 total): To be determined
Michael and Luke (2 total): 2 pies
John and Amber (5 total) YEAH! 2 green bean casseroles
Paul and Debbie (8 total) lots of side dishes
Margaret (4 total) 4 pies, whipped cream, ice cream, and a ham.
Jenny and Damon (4 total) Broccoli dish, rolls and fruit.
Jessica and her family, and Lindsay and Ben will be stopping by about 1pm for a visit. Val and Shelley will be stopping in to visit as well. Paul will be bringing Brooklynn, which will be the first time for most of us to meet her. His new wife, Debbie (I can't believe he convinced her to marry into this crazy family :)...will also be bringing her daughter, Megan, and Megan's two little ones, Gabe and Damion. I'm so glad that so many of us will be getting together. Looking forward to a Thanksgiving filled with happiness and hope. Love to all of you!
Remember to come anytime after 1pm....we will serve dinner 2:30-ish. And you are all welcome to stay as long as you want.

Michael Cabrera
Dear Family
Margaret here. As many of you know, on Thursday, Nov 6 Michael was taken to Riverside Emergency. Michael and Debbie are getting divorced; this on top of other troubles has caused physical, mental and emotional illness for Michael. He has been transferred to Twin Valley Behavioral Health to receive the help he needs.
Twin Valley Behavioral Health Care is located at 2200 W Broad Street and the phone number is (614) 752-0333. On Thursday, November 13 at 10:30 a Treatment Team Meeting will be held with Michael's medical staff and any family members who can make it to determine the best course of action to get Michael well enough to be part of the community. Right now he is expected to be in hospital for two or three weeks. As you can imagine he is extremely angry about this and not very receptive to hearing from anyone.
Michael will not be going back to his family home once he is released. He will be starting over. Debbie and I will be working together to find an apartment for him and getting him set up.
Please pray for Michael to accept the help that is at hand and to find the strength necessary to move forward.

Jason Announcement
November 01, 2008
Family & Friends,
We are happy to announce that Jason and Sylvia are now married! As much as we would have loved for all of you to be with us, we decided to spend our special day by ourselves only. We appreciate your understanding! And to make you feel like you were there with us, we are sending a packet of pictures from our day, before during and after our wedding ceremony.
It was great. A perfect day, in our eyes. We are both so very happy.
We look forward to seeing you all over the upcoming holidays and bragging about ourselves. Just kidding. We love you all.

Latest from Margaret
Hey everybody. I cannot sit silently by and wait for Katie to write something else. It is my turn to fill in the blanks.
MAMA AND PAPA
I know that John and Paul have been doing some visiting with Mama and Papa; I am glad to know that everyone is seeing them.
I saw both Mama and Papa this last week. Kate and I moved some of Mama's things into her new room followed by Bob and Jason moving Mama's dresser in for us. The atmosphere in the room is greatly enhanced by Mama's belongings - even if Mama doesn't notice, her visitors will. I know that Mary raised some issues regarding Mama's clothes, room share, etc with The Arbors' staff. Hopefully these issues will be resolved. I am so appreciative of the many ways our family demonstrates its love.
Just to let everyone know, I still have some of Mama's clothes and a few small pieces of furniture. I will continue to hold onto these items until they are needed and/or anyone wants them.
Mama hasn't been well the last couple of times I saw her. She hadn't taken her Adavan (sp?) the other day and was very agitated. Apparently she spat out her breakfast at other patients and the aide followed by refusing to take the Adavan. Lovely. She was very tense and fearful while Kate and I were there. We did get the medication in her by secreting it in chocolate pudding. We passed that suggestion on to the staff, who seemed open to the information. We also tracked down some of Mom's missing laundry; labeled and sorted belongings; organized Mom's drawers; and of course Kate cleaned Mama up and lotioned her thoroughly. Mama didn't speak much; however, she did join in when Kate and I sang some songs we remembered Mama singing (of course neither of us could remember all of the words).
I saw Papa later in the week on my own; I had not seen him in weeks. I thought he would look worse than he did. His leg was swollen, but I didn't think his face or stomach looked especially swollen. What shocked me was his difficulty in saying the words he wanted to get out. He wanted to talk, but nothing made sense. He did get out, "I love you" several times (what he actually meant to say was, "You're my favorite.").
Remember, Papa's birthday is this Wednesday, Sept 17.
MARGARET'S NEWS
CANCER - Most of you have heard that I have endometrium cancer (in my uterus). This should be fairly straight forward to take care of as it has been caught early. On Oct 1 I will be having my uterus and ovaries removed (I never thought my battle with weight would come to a hysterectomy). Depending on the surgery used, I can be home that night or if an incision is required I will be in hospital 3/4 days. I have been told to expect 6 weeks of recovery. Help is warmly and thankfully accepted.
BJ DEPARTING & PARTY - My other news is that BJ has decided to return to Australia (yes the wails you have heard are me crying). He leaves Sept 29. I will be hosting a Good Luck gathering at my house (6938 Ernest Way, Dublin) on Saturday, Sept 20 from 3pm to ??? for anyone available to wish BJ a safe trip and good luck. Please bring whatever you'd like to drink and a dish to share.
Hope to see you all soon.

Long Time No Blog...
Hi Family and Friends...it's Kate. Sorry for such a long time in between blogs...Summer is flying by at an alarmingly fast pace. How do the days go so quickly?
Let's see, hopefully you all have heard that Lita's mother-in-law (Bob's mom, Ruby)passed away. Very sad time for Lita and for Bob. There is a service on Weds. at Schoedinger's in Worthington at 1pm, followed by a gathering at Liti and Bob's house. She would love any support in your physical presence, but I'm sure would love cards for those of you who can't be here. Her new address is:
Noelita and Bob Maldeis
3242 Newgate Court
Dublin, Ohio 43017
Mama and Papa continue their slow decline in health. Some days are better than others, but most visits are sad these days. We have decided to keep Mama at the Arbors in Hilliard and did get her back under hospice care. It does not look like she will walk again, but they will keep going with what they call restorative nursing care. She is not eligible for physical therapy because of her advanced dementia...she just doesn't understand what they want her to do. Please visit whenever you can. Papa is still at the Forum. Mama's new address is:
The Arbors at Hilliard
5471 Scioto Darby Rd.
Hilliard, Ohio 43026
When you visit Mama for the first time, be prepared...the facility is, well, crappy to look at. It looks more hospital like, and has that "old people" smell to it. BUT, the care she receives is wonderful and loving. I just love how they treat her. And in the end, I think this is the most important thing.
Let's see my family...We are all doing well, getting ready for back to school time. Megan has volleyball try-outs tonight, and has been busy with summer leagues, and volleyball conditioning, and lots of babysitting to pay for her social life in the evenings. Jena has been practicing her version of "The Star Spangled Banner" which she will sing for the home volleyball games at Megan's high school (it pays to have a senior on the team :) Nicole got braces this summer and a pallet expander, so has had to re-learn how to talk and eat with this big contraption in her mouth.
We have had a nice summer with our big splurge being the Ranch. We had a blast, as always, and can't wait to go again next year. I have begun the job hunt and have sent in a few resumes, no responses yet. I will keep you all posted.
Please send any updates. Especially the good news. Thanks Val for putting information on Baby Gavin.
Love,
Kate

July 25th Update on Pops
Just spoke to Nancy at Forum. Papa was found leaving the AL area last night in middle of night. He actually got out into service area beyond the assisted (AL) area. Of course, the security alarm went off when he went through doors with punching in passcode. Nancy indicated they were going to have to put a wander bracelet on him. Costs around $65. This will trigger alarm whenever Papa approaches the AL doors that are secured.
Dr. Harris saw Papa yesterday and said he seemed good. Nancy indicated most days now Papa's face is very puffy and feet are swollen. She also indicated that Papa is beginning to show signs of being anxious late in afternoon and evening. He's not good at those times. Example: last night had to have his meal in his room. He could not go to dining room. Nancy also indicated that they have noticed that his appetite is not very good.
Finally, the hard question: do they have an idea about how much time poor Papa has? Nancy indicated they still do not have an idea...she said it could be any time. Said she would not be surprised if she walked in his room one morning and he was gone. Just thought I should let you all know.
Love, Tish
