More on Hospice for Mama

Hi from Tish. Just talked to Lou Basso, minister for Harbor Light Hospice. He saw Mama today and said she was very sweet. He asked a lot of questions about Mama. Mostly wanted to know what her religious beliefs are, where M&P went to church, how devout she is, and also wanted to know if she would enjoy it if he sang to her. I told him to definitely sing songs...I think Mama would love that (Lou is going to take his guitar or mandolin with him the next time). Anyway, I gave him as much information as I could and he may be contacting Kate (Kate, he knows you are primary contact for hospice-related things so he wants to keep you informed). Lou is now going over to see Papa. I told him Papa would enjoy the same things as Mama from a spiritual standpoint.

Kate, regarding medical intervention, my thought is to keep them on those meds that they need to make them comfortable and painless in their final days. Naturally,I am only speaking for myself.

Kate, thanks for the detailed update.

Love, Tish

Hi to all from Jessica,

I am so happy to hear that baby Hugo is here! It is so nice to remember that miracles still happen.

I have been very busy with school winding up and work (blah) but I think I am going to go see both grandma and grandpa this weekend. If anyone else is planning on going and you know which day and about what time it will be please share, I would love to run into someone! Although the news is hard to hear I really appreciate the updates and am continually praying for the whole family to get through this whole ordeal as well as just everyday life. Not that I have a say in the medical care of either grandma or grandpa but I am a believer that quality becomes better than quantity of life in these situations...just my thoughts as hard as it is to actually say.

I hope everyone is doing well, Jenny when you get Drakes new address please share, I got a funny card for him; and I hope you had a great visit with him! John and Amber- Congrats! I'm so excited to have a new cousin and can't wait to see him :) Now we start the countdown for Dan and Charity...when is she due Mary? Anyone else expecting that I'm not aware of? :) Also, I haven't heard from or about Paul for a long time so it was good to hear him mentioned!

Thats all, Hugs and Kisses to everyone!

Jessica

Jessica, how good to hear from you. It's always great to hear from the nieces and nephews. And thank you for your input on quality vs quantity of life. I know I appreciate your input as, I am sure, your father does and your other uncles and aunts.

I would love to run into you this weekend; however, I will be out of town till Sunday afternoon so chances are I will not see you. Shucks. However, I am sure there will be others visiting this weekend. There's usually a number of people who go out a different times on either Saturday and Sunday.

Jenny, make sure you keep us informed about Drake's address.

Love, Tish

Hi from Fran,

I will be coming into town on Friday...will be there through the
weekend. So Jessica, yes, I will be going to see both mama and papa
on Saturday and Sunday, as I am sure Mary will be too (I'll be staying with her). I will call you...maybe we can meet and all go together (it will be less stressful for you).

I am hoping to see baby Hugo and his proud parents and siblings (if they are up to it). I am also hoping to see some of my other siblings...is anyone up for breakfast on Saturday or Sunday???

As Tish said, it is always so nice to hear from the nieces and nephews and we appreciate everyone's thoughts on how to help
mama and papa.

Greetings from your favorite, Margaret.

I love hearing from everyone and getting the good as well as the bad news. I am particularly thrilled when one of the nieces and nephews write. It's nice to know that the Cabrera line is going strong and the name Hugo will continue to grace the family.

Fran, I am up for breakfast either Sat or Sun - anyone else?

My oral surgery went well, but I am still having some problems with the healing. I will be escorting the three boys on their way to Australia. We will fly from Columbus to Las Angeles June 5 where I will see them off on their Australia bound flight and return to Columbus on June 6. Then I will repeat the trip in August to collect the boys as the get off their flight in LA.

What am I going to do while they're gone this summer you ask? I will be getting a hysterectomy in mid-June! I have been told to expect a 4 to 6 week recovery time. Fortunately the boys will be with Bryan during this time and I will not be telling them about the surgery until it is all over. Ken and I have booked a week of vacation at the horse ranch with Kate's crew and Paul's gang in early July. I'm starting to believe God does not want me to get a job! I'll continue to send out my applications as I know that at some point in time I need to make and honest living.

I took over some more stretch pants for Papa on Monday. I figured with the change of medication, he will probably be most comfortable with elastic waistbands.

My thoughts on how I would like to proceed with Mama and Papa's care follow. While none of us want them to die, we don't want them to suffer either. They are suffering now.

I agonize watching Papa struggle to say a single sentence. I have heard him say that this process is hard. He has told me that his life has been good. He is passing on his responsibilities to us. He wants to rest. I am willing to let him rest with no prolonging intervention. No more medication to help reduce the swelling. I will agree to the only medical care from now on to be for ease in Papa's dying.

No one can tell me that Mama does not know that Papa is dying. She is ready to go too. Somewhere inside of Mama her strength of determination lives on. She is trying to join Papa by not eating. Once again I do not see a quality of life in this situation. I do not want to prolong Mama's suffering. She is not coming back to us, but is willing herself to go.

Daily I pray for Mama and Papa's release from this world. They have done their jobs. I am thankful that we have all had the chance to love them so well. I am so glad that we have each other; Mama and Papa really did give us a wonderful gift of family.

That's my update for today.

Love
Margaret

Morning all~ Jen here

The girls and I had a wonderful time with Drake last weekend. He looks fantastic and is personifying this great pride in himself!! He is now in Wichita Falls, Texas @ Sheppard AFB training to be a medical lab tech. I don't have an address as yet, but will pass it along as soon as I know what it will be.

Fran~ I'd love to be included in the breakfast thing. I'd also like to make a visit to see grandma and grandpa, but would like to go with someone too… Mind if I tag along?

Love to all~
Jen
